Colour

Task for the week: to write a poem about, or inspired by, a colour. We had to randomly select two coloured pencils and then write a poem(s) about each. I had blue and red.

The Sea

Lazily lapping on the shore
It’s no longer the raging carnivore
That yesterday’s destruction wreaked
With man-eating waves, navy blue and peaked.

Red

Harbouring love and adoration
Announcing womanhood to the nation
Flushing the skin with rage or jubilation.

Ripening fruit – from green with stealth
Catching the light and announcing wealth
Expressing danger or it’s bad for your health.

Shepherd’s warning or delight daubed across the sky
Devilment caught from an unblinking eye
Colouring a cheek – embarrassed or shy.
