Achievement

Task for the week: to write a short piece about achievement. With Olympic fever raging here’s my attempt:

The Olympics have started
A pursuit for bronze, silver and gold
But it’s not just about the medals,
Or so we’re told;
It’s about aspiration, achievement,
Just doing your best
Even if you come a long way
Behind the rest.

And a more personal take on achievement:

I look at my life
Wondering what I’ve achieved
Yet I seem to draw a blank
People will say to me
But you’ve a first class degree
You own your own house
And you’ve travelled widely
Yet I find it hard to own
These achievements
I feel they belong to
Somebody else.
That was a different me.
